Berger Paints is a company that was founded by the Dhingra Brothers, Kuldip Singh Dhingra and Gurbachan Singh Dhingra. Since 1898, the Dhingra family has operated a paint business. Kuldip and Gurbachan joined their family business of opening stores in Amritsar after graduating from Delhi University. Around Rs 10 lakh was the yearly revenue they produced during the 1970s.
Both brothers joined the global market in the 1980s and, with an annual revenue of Rs 300 crore, rose to the top of the paint export rankings to the Soviet Union.
How Did Berger Paints Become A Household Name?
Vijay Mallya was the owner of the faltering Berger Paints. After committing several financial crimes that resulted in the bankruptcy of many of his companies, he went from being one of India’s most renowned business tycoons to the nation’s most wanted financial criminal.
However, Dhingra Brothers purchased Berger Paints in the 1990s. The Dhingra family has been involved in the paint industry since 1898. They developed marketing plans and promised reasonable costs for high quality. It assisted the brand in regaining its market value.
The business of Berger Paints has now expanded to Bangladesh, Nepal, Poland, Russia, and India. This strategy not only improved the company’s reputation but also increased brand loyalty both domestically and abroad. It is acknowledged as the second-biggest paint company in India, behind Asian Paints.
With operations across multiple nations, Berger Paints generated Rs 10,619 crore in sales by 2023.
The success of Berger Paints today is evidence of the Dhingra brothers’ tenacity and business sense. Berger Paints is led by Kuldip Singh Dhingra as chairman and Gurbachan Singh Dhingra as vice chairman. Their combined net worth is $8.2 billion, or around Rs 68,467 crore, according to Forbes.
The succeeding generation of the Dhingra family is currently employed at Berger Paints as well. Executive Directors at the headquarters in Kolkata are Kanwardip Singh Dhingra, son of Gurbachan Singh Dhingra, and Rishma Kaur, daughter of Kuldip Singh Dhingra.
The business is expected to grow in the international market under their direction, carrying on the Dhingra family’s legacy of quality and creativity.
